The license
Truly open, with nothing held back
We chose AGPL-3.0 because it keeps the software open for everyone. Anyone can run it and change it. Anyone who shares a modified copy, or runs one for other people to use over a network, has to offer them the source code for it, so nobody can take the code private.

Use it for your business, modify it, and host it wherever you like.
No open core
No enterprise edition with the good features locked away. One app, fully open.
No contributor license agreement
Contributors keep their rights and sign off commits under the Developer Certificate of Origin.
The code is open, the name is not
Run and change the software freely. The SimplyRCS and Signalmash names and logos are covered by a separate trademark policy.

Is the SimplyRCS source code available yet?
Not yet. We are preparing the first public release now. If you want to contribute or self-host early, email us at hello@signalmash.com and we can bring you in before the public release.
How can I contribute?
Email us at hello@signalmash.com and tell us what you would like to work on. Once the repository is public, contributions are made under the Developer Certificate of Origin: you sign off each commit, and there is no contributor license agreement to sign. We review every contribution before it goes into a release.
What is open source and what is not?
The SimplyRCS application is open source: contacts, consent, audiences, campaigns, content, bots, journeys, AI, analytics and the inbox. SimplyRCS Connectivity, the carrier network that vets senders, routes and delivers messages, and handles billing, stays with us.
Why AGPL-3.0?
It keeps the software open. You can run it and change it for free. If you share a modified version, or run one for other people to use over a network, you have to offer them its source code, so nobody can take the code private.
Does the self-hosted version get new features later than the cloud?
No. SimplyRCS Cloud and self-hosted SimplyRCS are built from the same code. A feature ships to both at the same time. The only difference is who runs the server.
Is there an enterprise edition with extra features?
No. There is no open core and no paid edition holding features back. What we sell is the carrier network and people: messaging, Premium Support, and help installing and customizing the software.
Can I connect a different carrier?
The license allows it, but we do not support it. The open application is built to send through SimplyRCS, and that is the setup we test and support.
Can I use the SimplyRCS name and logo?
You can run and modify the software freely, but you cannot distribute it under the SimplyRCS or Signalmash names or logos without our permission. A separate trademark policy covers them.
