There is nothing to add to a plan. RCS runs over Wi-Fi or mobile data rather than the cellular text channel, so it draws on data rather than a texting allowance.
Which app carries UScellular RCS messaging
On Android, Google Messages. UScellular runs its RCS on the Jibe platform that Google operates, the same backend AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile use, which is why a conversation behaves the same way across all four. If a UScellular handset is running a manufacturer messaging app and chat features look missing, that is usually the whole explanation. See does Samsung support RCS.
UScellular RCS on iPhone
On iPhone, RCS lives in Apple's own Messages app. Apple added it in iOS 18.1 in October 2024, and it needs the carrier to have switched it on. UScellular appears on the carrier list published in May 2026 for the encrypted RCS in iOS 26.5, so an iPhone on UScellular reaches Android contacts over RCS, and private chats can be end-to-end encrypted when both ends qualify. Is RCS encrypted explains which messages that covers.
What the T-Mobile deal changes for RCS
T-Mobile acquired UScellular's wireless business in 2025. For RCS the practical effect is small, because both networks already carried it on the same Google backend. A line that stays on UScellular service has RCS, and a line that moves to a T-Mobile plan has T-Mobile RCS. The one thing to expect is a short re-registration if the SIM or eSIM changes, because RCS registration is bound to the line.
Do Verizon and UScellular get RCS with each other
Yes. RCS works across carriers, and Verizon and UScellular both reach Google Messages through the same backend. A conversation between the two upgrades to RCS when both phones have it switched on, and falls back to SMS when either side cannot use it at that moment.
Turning it on
On Android: Google Messages, profile menu, Messages settings, RCS chats, on. On iPhone: Settings, Apps, Messages, RCS Messaging. The phone then registers with the network, which usually takes seconds and occasionally longer. How to turn RCS on and off has both walkthroughs.
If RCS is not working on UScellular
- Chat features missing. Check that Google Messages is the default texting app and that RCS chats is switched on.
- Stuck on "Setting up". Registration wants mobile data at least once; Wi-Fi alone often will not finish it. RCS waiting for activation has the rest.
- Stopped after a SIM swap, an eSIM transfer or a move to a T-Mobile plan. Registration is bound to the line and has to redo the handshake.
- Rich in some threads, plain in others. Expected. RCS upgrades a conversation only when both ends support it, and falls back to SMS otherwise.

What this means for business senders
UScellular subscribers are reached by the same verified sender as everyone else. The RBM agent approval that covers AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile covers UScellular too, with no UScellular-specific registration on top, and a verified sender shows your name, logo, and checkmark there exactly as on the others. UScellular does apply its own A2P carrier surcharges, which SimplyRCS passes through at cost and lists on the pricing page.
UScellular's row, next to the three national carriers and their prepaid brands, is kept current in the RCS carrier support tracker.
- UScellular supports RCS via Google Messages (Android) and Apple Messages (iPhone).
- UScellular is on the published carrier list for encrypted RCS on iPhone (iOS 26.5, 2026).
- T-Mobile acquired UScellular's wireless business in 2025, and both networks support RCS.
- RCS works between UScellular and the other US carriers, Verizon included.
- Business senders need no UScellular-specific approval beyond a standard verified RBM agent.
